Nigerian forward Alex Iwobi was tested positive before Saturday’s 1-0 away win over Benin, which he was shipped back to Nigeria with the rest of the team on Sunday.
Iwobi will not be accessible for Nigeria’s final 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier game against Lesotho after his result for covid-19 was positive, as officials told AFP on Monday.
“Iwobi has left the camp,” Eagles spokesperson Babafemi Raji told AFP.
“Before he left, he did not show any symptoms, he was fine.”
The 24-year-old, has scored twice during the qualifying campaign for the delayed Cup of Nations, which Cameroon will be hosting in January next year.
Super Eagles win over Benin ensured them to be group L toppers, although they had already qualified before kick-off thanks to a goalless stalemate between Lesotho and Sierra Leone.
Gernot Rohr’s side have 11 points from five matches and with seven points ahead of third-placed Sierra Leone, and with the top two teams in the group qualifying for the tournament.
Nigeria host the bottom table side Lesotho in Lagos on Tuesday.
