Arsenal has reportedly agreed on terms with Brighton over the much-anticipated transfer of Ben White for £50million.
According to reports, White has agreed to personal terms with the Gunners and, ruled to a medical, is set to sign a five-year contract to become Arsenal’s most valuable defender ever.
Mikel Arteta has eventually got his man after following White for some time. Brighton denied an initial bid of £40m for the 23-year-old last month and also declined Arsenal’s follow-up offer of £45m plus extra.
While some other clubs – including Chelsea, Everton, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Tottenham – were all heavily attracted to White, Arsenal is understood to be the only club to make a formal proposal for him.
White’s career has flown the past season, with the Seagulls star a late call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020 following a brilliant debut campaign in the Premier League.
However, after playing in friendlies against Austria and Romania, he did not perform at all in the tournament.
However, it’s a remarkable rise for White, who was playing on loan at Newport County in League Two just three years ago.
