News in Spain say Lionel Messi has accepted ‘in principle’ a new contract
Lionel Messi has reportedly approve a 50 per cent pay cut to achieve a new five-year contract with Barcelona.
The Argentine genius will be 39 by the time this latest deal ends with reports in Spain saying everything is now decided in principal.
Messi is currently a free agent after his last Nou Camp contract ended at the beginning of this month but is now set to engage to his one and only club for what could be the remainder of his playing career.
On Wednesday afternoon news broke that Messi has agreed to cut his £500,000-a-week salaries by half with money never the issue in the talks.
Messi understands the financial pressures on the club following the Covid-19 crisis and wanted to set an example to the rest of the Barcelona squad.
Sport say the question of taxation was a greater cling point with neither parties wanting to get anything wrong.
