A heavy downpour on Saturday claimed the lives of two persons at ka’oje village in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto state.
It was rightly confirmed that a collapsed building as a result of the heavy downpour claimed the lives of the two sisters whilst they were asleep in a building.
Similarly, the severity of the heavy downpour also claimed the lives of over 140 livestock, particularly goats and sheep, while over 170 houses totally collapsed in the area.
The parents of the girls have expressed shock over the incident, as many residents bemoaned the sad occurrence, and prayed to God for mercy.
The Director, Relief, and Rehabilitation in the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mustapha Umar was on the site to witness the extent of the damage.
Also, a combined team of Sokoto Emergency Management Agency, National Emergency Management Agency, and International Organization For Migration were in the village for an on-the-spot assessment.
Some witnesses on-site also Confirmed that there were two other communities in the local government area that were also affected by the rainstorm but the degree of damage was yet to be ascertained.
The residents lamented that more rains are yet to come and that it is a matter of time to determine the extent of damage that looms owing to the yearly experience the rain brings, with no adequate solution to the devastating effects of the heavy downpour and its subsequent effects of flooding.
